Here you’ll find essential information about your Wegovy 7.2mg weekly dosing; including delivery details, storage instructions and guidance on usage & disposal.
Please take some time to explore this information and ensure you understand how the Wegovy 7.2mg dose should be taken as this is slightly different to other GLP-1 medication.
Previously, the highest approved weekly dose of Wegovy in the UK was 2.4mg. The introduction of this higher dosage option gives patients the flexibility to increase their treatment further when appropriate, potentially supporting greater weight loss outcomes.
You can always learn more about your Wegovy treatment and tips for leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle over on the Phlo Clinic weight loss advice hub.

Your 4-week supply of Wegovy will be delivered via the Royal Mail Tracked 24 option. Your package will include:
Your package will include your three 2.4mg injection pens, meticulously packed with insulation material and ice gel packs to maintain the required temperature.
If your parcel arrives visibly damaged, please accept it, check the contents, and contact our Patient Care team promptly.
External packaging may sometimes appear damaged due to transit or weather. Our internal Woolcool temperature-controlled packaging protects the medication, though ice packs may occasionally leak and affect the cardboard. This does not impact the pen's condition or effectiveness. Refrigerate the package immediately and contact us if you have any concerns.

*For illustrative purposes only. The brand of sharps bin in your package may differ to the above.
Please don’t use Wegovy after the expiration date (EXP) indicated on the pen label and medicine box.
The expiry date refers to the last day of that month, and is the last day the medication can be used.
Wegovy 7.2 mg is taken once weekly by injection under the skin (subcutaneous injection). Three doses of 2.4 mg should be injected one after another using the same pen (which contains a total of four doses) but remember to change the needle for each new dose.
Injections can be given in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. If injecting in the same area, injections should be at least 5 cm apart and should be injected at the same time and day each week.

Before first use please store Wegovy in a fridge (2°C to 8°C). Ensure not to freeze the medication and don’t use it if it has been subjected to freezing temperatures.
After first use and once opened, Wegovy can be stored at room temperature (8°C to 30°C) for up to 6 weeks (42 days). Keep the pen cap on at all times when not in use to shield it from light.
Remember, when taking the Wegovy 7.2mg dose, you will inject three doses of the Wegovy 2.4mg pen from the pen once every week. You will have one dose remaining in the opened pen which you should use the following week before taking an additional two doses from the new pen (and so on).
Always safeguard Wegovy from light exposure and store it out of children's sight and reach.

If you notice any damage to the pen, or if the medication appears cloudy, discoloured, or contains particles, do not use it and contact us immediately.
You should report any issues to us within 24 hours of receiving the medication. However, even if you notice any issue after this period please let us know so we can alert the manufacturer and try to assist.
As with all medications, side effects can occur when taking Wegovy. The most common side effects are nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Some patients may also experience skin sensitivity. Rest assured that these tend to settle as your body adapts to the medication.
If you experience prolonged stomach pain, a sustained increased heart rate, or any symptoms that are alarming to you, please stop using your treatment and get in touch.
Gallstones are a fairly common condition within the UK population, affecting roughly 1 in 10 people. Approximately 1 in 10 users of Wegovy, and up to 1 in 100 Mounjaro users, develop gallstones. Additionally, up to 1 in 100 experience inflammation of the gallbladder. These occurrences are often linked to rapid weight loss, typically around 1.5kg (over 3 pounds) per week. Cholecystitis, or gallbladder inflammation, appears to be more prevalent among Mounjaro and Wegovy users.
Individuals with gallstones can still consider using Mounjaro or Wegovy, but we will evaluate various factors during your consultation to determine the suitability of weight loss medication for you.
If you experience abdominal discomfort, particularly on the right side beneath your ribs, it is essential to seek medical attention promptly.
In cases of severe pain, vomiting, blood in urine, or a high temperature, please contact NHS 111 for guidance or proceed to A&E. We advise maintaining a diet of small, frequent meals throughout the day to avoid rapid weight loss and encourage adequate hydration.
Please take your medication as prescribed. If you wish to discuss your treatment with a clinician (e.g decreasing doses due to side effects) please get in touch with our team and we will advice you accordingly.
There are no known interactions between Wegovy and oral contraceptives, so you can continue taking them as advised by your prescriber or according to the manufacturer’s instructions. However, Wegovy can sometimes cause side effects such as diarrhoea or vomiting. If you vomit within 3 hours of taking your pill, or if you experience diarrhoea lasting more than 24 hours, you should treat this as a missed pill and follow the guidance in the information leaflet that comes with your contraceptive.
After use, promptly dispose of used pen needles in the provided sharps bin. Avoid disposing of loose pen needles in household waste. Please consult with your local council on the disposal of sharps bins in your area.
The used pens can be recycled via PenCycle, or can be taken to your local pharmacy for disposal after removing the needle.
Please refrain from recycling used sharps disposal containers.
