Weight loss injections work by mimicking hormones your body naturally produces after eating. These hormones signal to your brain that you are full, slow the rate at which your stomach empties, and help reduce appetite between meals. The result is that you eat less, feel satisfied sooner, and experience fewer food cravings throughout the day.
The medications Phlo Clinic prescribes target one or two of these hormone pathways:
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1): A hormone released in the gut after eating. It suppresses appetite, slows gastric emptying, and helps regulate blood glucose levels. Wegovy (semaglutide) mimics GLP-1.
GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide): A second gut hormone that enhances the effects of GLP-1, improves how the body processes fat and sugar, and is thought to increase the overall weight loss effect. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) mimics both GLP-1 and GIP, making it a dual agonist.
Lipase inhibition: Orlistat works differently. Rather than affecting appetite hormones, it blocks the enzymes that break down dietary fat in the gut, meaning your body absorbs roughly a third less fat from each meal.
All three mechanisms are supported by extensive clinical trial data and are approved for use in the UK by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

Navigating the landscape of weight loss medication can be complex. Phlo Clinic offers three primary, manufacturer-sourced treatments: Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Orlistat. Each operates through a different mechanism to support your goals.
We provide a price match scheme on GLP-1 medications to ensure accessibility. This allows you to benefit from competitive pricing while retaining access to our fully managed clinical service, monthly check-ins, and free tracked delivery.
Wegovy is a leading GLP-1 receptor agonist that has transformed medical weight management. The active ingredient, semaglutide, mimics a natural hormone that targets areas of the brain involved in regulating appetite and food intake.
Key facts:
Format:
Weekly self-injection via the FlexTouch pen
Efficacy:
Clinical trials show up to 20.7% weight loss
Dosage:
Titrated from 0.25mg to 2.4mg to manage tolerance
This medication is particularly effective for those who struggle with intense cravings. By slowing gastric emptying, it helps you feel fuller for longer, significantly reducing daily calorie intake without the sensation of deprivation.
Mounjaro represents the next generation of weight management treatments. It’s unique because it acts as a dual agonist, targeting both GLP-1 and GIP receptors. This dual action enhances the body's natural ability to regulate blood sugar levels and fat metabolism while suppressing appetite.
Key facts:
Format:
Weekly self-injection via the KwikPen
Efficacy:
Studies demonstrate up to 20% weight loss
Dosage:
Ranges from 2.5mg to 15mg
Because it targets two hormonal pathways simultaneously, Mounjaro is often considered a potent option for patients who require significant weight reduction. Like Wegovy, it is a prescription-only medicine that requires clinical oversight.
For patients seeking a non-injectable alternative, Orlistat offers a different approach. Instead of altering hormones or brain chemistry, Orlistat works in the digestive system. It acts as a lipase inhibitor, preventing your body from breaking down and absorbing approximately one-third of the fat from the food you eat.
Key facts:
Format:
Oral capsule taken three times daily with meals
Efficacy:
Can help reduce overall body fat by 5%
Dosage:
Blocks dietary fat absorption
Orlistat is ideal for individuals who prefer oral medication over needles and are committed to a lower-fat diet. The unabsorbed fat is naturally eliminated from the body, making dietary compliance essential for comfort and effectiveness.

Our approach to weight loss treatments is based on three core factors - designed with you and your long-term health as our priority.
You are aged between 18 and 85
You have a BMI above 30 or have a BMI above 27 and a weight-related accompanying condition
(e.g. high blood pressure or cholesterol amongst others)
If you’re already on GLP-1 medication and switch to Phlo Clinic, we require a BMI of above 23 with supporting evidence
Supply photographic evidence to verify your consultation.
Meet all other clinical criteria subject to your medical history and GP records.
During the consultation stage we’ll ask you for more specific information to help you find the right treatment.
Prescription weight loss treatments are not suitable for everyone. Eligibility is assessed on the basis of your BMI and any weight-related health conditions, alongside a review of your full medical history and current medications.
Weight-related conditions that may lower the BMI threshold include high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, and cardiovascular disease.
In addition to the BMI criteria laid out above, to be considered for any prescription weight loss treatment through Phlo Clinic, you must also:
Be aged 18 or over
Not be pregnant or breastfeeding
Have no known allergy to the active ingredients
Not have certain contraindicated medical conditions (assessed during your consultation)
You should also disclose to your prescribing pharmacist if you have a history of any other medical conditions, such as pancreatitis or eating disorders.

To ensure your clinical safety and the best chance of successful treatment, we ask patients to meet our eligibility requirements for injectable weight loss medications. Self-check your initial eligibility below, but please be aware that meeting these factors doesn’t guarantee automatic approval. Every patient needs to complete a simple to use online consultation form, which is then reviewed by our specialist clinical team.
Initial eligibility criteria:

These are revolutionary injectable treatments proven to help you lose weight. They stimulate hormonal receptors related to energy and appetite, and can help you achieve your weight loss goals when combined with dietary and lifestyle changes
Depending on the treatment you use, they stimulate two different naturally occurring hormonal receptors: glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP).
GLP-1 helps to regulate blood sugar levels, which in turn talks to the brain to make you feel less hungry and prevent cravings. It also slows down the emptying of the stomach to keep you feeling fuller for longer.
GIP regulates energy balance in brain and fat cells, enhancing the GLP-1 effect of suppressing your appetite and improving sugar control.
Wegovy works on GLP-1 alone, whereas Mounjaro combines with GIP to increase the weight loss potential.
Phlo Clinic offer a range of injectable weight loss medications including Mounjaro, Wegovy & Orlistat. All treatments will be subject to a clinical consultation, your suitability for treatment and will be subject to stock availability and demand.
Weight loss medications are generally considered safe to take alongside many other medications, however there are cases where medications may adversely interact with each other. Each person’s clinical circumstances are different, so it’s always best to consult a clinical expert for an individual assessment. You should always provide a full and honest medical history alongside a note of any prescription and non-prescription medications you’re taking.
These weight loss medications are approved for use by the MHRA, the UK government department responsible for ensuring that medicines and medical devices work and are safe.
Your treatment will be supervised by our qualified pharmacists and clinical team at all times. If you experience any side effects or changes in overall health, you must let us know so we can ensure your safe health & wellbeing.
Like all medicines, some people may experience side effects when taking weight loss medications. It’s important to understand which side effects you may experience and what the likelihood of experiencing them is.
It’s important to add that not everyone will experience side effects, and if you don’t, that doesn’t mean that your medication isn’t working. Many people experience a successful weight loss journey with no side effects.
Explore the full list of possible side effects in the Patient Information Leaflet that comes with the medication.
Most users say they can barely feel the needle when they inject! The key to this (and a seamless injection experience) is to follow the detailed step-by-step instructions that will come with your selected weight loss pen.
Make sure you read our What to do before you inject article before you get started. It’s then important to thoroughly read the injection instructions and follow all the key steps; right from preparation, to injecting, and finally to post-injection.
We advise patients to contact their local council as the first option option as they can usually arrange collection from your home address or provide guidance on local drop off points. Some pharmacies will also accept sharps bins for disposal but this will be at the discretion of the particular pharmacy.
Prices for our weight loss treatments start from around £89 per month; including your medication, at-home delivery and the supportive oversight of our clinical team. As your plan progresses and your monthly dosage increases, the monthly price may also increase.
If your treatment is followed correctly and you adopt lifestyle changes (healthier eating and exercise) you can lose up to 15% to 20% of your bodyweight in a 17-month period. Results are dependent on the treatment you choose, as clinical studies show varying results per treatment type.
Our clinical team will check in regularly with you via email to see how you are progressing with treatment. Towards the end of your first month, you will receive reminder emails with instructions on how to re-order your next dose. You will be directed to a shorter clinical consultation designed to assess how you are getting on with your treatment and whether or not you need a dosage adjustment. You can also log in to your Phlo Clinic account and re-order this way should you choose. For optimal results, we encourage patients to take a long term view of this treatment on a monthly basis until you reach your weight loss goal.
The active ingredient in Wegovy is Semaglutide. Semaglutide belongs to a class of GLP-1 medications which contributes to reducing hunger pangs, slowing gastric emptying, and increasing insulin production. The active ingredient in Mounjaro is Tirzepatide. This has a similar effect; decreasing food intake and slowing gastric emptying.
Yes, all of the clinical team members who review your weight loss consultations are fully qualified prescribing pharmacists who have undergone additional training. All of our pharmacists and prescribing pharmacists are fully qualified and GPhC registered.
If you are transferring to Phlo Clinic from another GLP-1 provider, we will require evidence of your most recent prescription before we can prescribe your current dose.
This applies to all Mounjaro and Wegovy doses, except the starting doses (0.25mg Wegovy and 2.5mg Mounjaro).
Your evidence must show your most recent prescription, issued within the last 4 weeks.
Unable to provide evidence? If we cannot verify your previous prescription, our clinicians will be unable to prescribe a higher dose. You will be advised to start at the lowest available strength. This requirement is in place to ensure clinical safety and support safe prescribing practice.
Like all prescription medications, weight loss treatments can cause side effects. Most are mild to moderate and tend to improve as your body adjusts to the medication, particularly during the dose escalation phase. Serious side effects are uncommon but should be reported to your Phlo Clinic clinical team immediately.

The most common side effects of GLP-1 injections (nausea, vomiting) are typically dose-dependent and most pronounced during the escalation period. You can help manage them by:
Eating smaller, more frequent meals
Avoiding high-fat, spicy, or greasy foods, particularly in the first weeks of treatment
Staying well hydrated
Resting adequately
For orlistat, the gastrointestinal side effects are directly related to fat intake. Keeping dietary fat below 30% of total calories per meal significantly reduces their occurrence.
