12 Months on weight loss injections v gastric surgery

When considering both weight loss options it's important to evaluate the effectiveness of each, consequences and effects, as well as the cost involved. Weight loss injections and the various gastric surgeries are both popular choices, but they differ significantly in terms of financial investment. Here is a breakdown of the costs for each method over a 12-month period.

Weight loss injections cost breakdown

At Phlo Clinic, we offer a structured dosage plan for weight loss injections, starting with the lowest dose and gradually increasing to a maintenance dose based on your weight loss progression and health status.

Here's a month-by-month cost breakdown of what a typical 12-month journey on the weight loss injection Mounjaro could look like*:

Total example cost for 12 months on Mounjaro weight loss injections with Phlo Clinic = £2,398*

*Please note, not everyone will progress as quickly as this and it is possible you repeat a dose for a month or two longer whilst side effects stabilise, or if you’re happy your weight loss is progressing without a need to increase dosage.

As shown above, as you approach 12 months of being on the medication, we may suggest tapering down from a higher dose to a lower dose for the last few months. This gives your mind and body time to adjust to being off the medication and it’s important to do this gradually. However, these types of medication can be prescribed for up to two years so you may continue to progress to 15mg or find the maintenance dose that works for you until you achieve your desired results.

The cost of gastric surgery

The cost of gastric band surgery does vary widely depending on the provider and location, but ranges from £4,000 to £15,000. However, there are several financial and other significant factors to consider before pursuing this.

1. Financial investment

Often this would require a financial health check such as a credit check, as well as a possible a considerable upfront payment or deposit.

2. Long-term costs

Whilst this is typically a one-time cost, it may include follow-up care and potential additional procedures to consider.

3. Health & lifestyle

Any abdominal gastro procedure is invasive and will come with potential surgical risks. It will also require a significant recovery time and some procedures are non-reversible. This could mean your eating habits will be permanently different and you will have to adapt to a totally new way of eating for you, such as much smaller portions.

Cost comparison

  • Weight loss injections: £2,418 for under for 12 months
  • Gastric band surgery: £4,000 to £15,000

Weight loss injections and gastric band surgery have their pros and cons, both financially and practically. Weight loss injections through Phlo Clinic offer a much less invasive and gradual approach to weight loss, with nutritional support and guidance along the way, not to mention costs distributed over time. Gastric band surgery is a more expensive cost upfront and is a drastic change of eating habits for life. It's important to consider not only the financial aspect but also the impact on health, lifestyle, and personal preference when making a decision.
