Whether you’re planning on travelling, you accidentally missed a dose or you want to know how it could interact with your family planning, here’s a handy list of dos and don’ts to make sure you stay safe and healthy throughout your Mounjaro Kwikpen journey.

Can you take two shots of Mounjaro at the same time?

Don’t take two shots of Mounjaro at the same time to make up for a missed dose or to double your dose. The safety and efficacy of doing this has not yet been studied and is not recommended by the manufacturer. You must leave at least 3 days between doses. For more information on what to do if you miss a dose, take a look at our handy guide.

Do you take Mounjaro on an empty stomach?

Mounjaro is taken subcutaneously, which means it’s injected under the skin into the fat and is then absorbed into the bloodstream. As it does not enter the bloodstream through the stomach, you can take Mounjaro with or without food.

Can you drink alcohol on Mounjaro?

Although alcohol does not interact directly with the active drug in Mounjaro (Tirzerpatide), and there are no official guidelines on this, it is not recommended to drink alcohol whilst taking Mounjaro. This is because consuming alcohol may lead to increased calorie consumption and make you more likely to experience gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea and vomiting.

Alcohol can cause dehydration, and it’s important to stay hydrated when taking Mounjaro. Aim to drink 2-3 litres of fluid per day from water, unsweetened tea and coffee, sugar free squash, low fat milk or unsweetened soya milk.

Can you smoke while on Mounjaro?

Similarly to alcohol, tobacco smoke and nicotine do not directly interact with Tirzepatide. However, smoking is not recommended as part of a healthy lifestyle. If you’re looking to kick the habit for good, recent research shows that Mounjaro could help curb smoking addictions.

Can you use Mounjaro if not refrigerated?

You can take the first dose from your Mounjaro Kwikpen at room temperature. From then on, it’s recommended to refrigerate the pen. If you forget, don’t worry! If you leave it out of the refrigerator, it is safe to use for up to 21 days if stored at room temperature. Visit our Mounjaro guide for more information on how to correctly store your Mounjaro Kwikpen.

Can you take Mounjaro when pregnant?

No, do not take Mounjaro when pregnant. There is not enough research to suggest that the active drug in Mounjaro is safe to be used during pregnancy, as pregnant people have not been included in clinical trials. Furthermore, animal research suggests that Mounjaro could be harmful to a fetus. Phlo Clinic will not prescribe Mounjaro to you if you are pregnant.

Can you take Mounjaro while breastfeeding?

Do not take Mounjaro while breastfeeding. It is not known whether the drug is safe to use during this time, as the effects of Mounjaro on breast milk have not been researched. Phlo Clinic will not prescribe Mounjaro to you if you are breastfeeding.

Can you bring Mounjaro on a plane?

Yes, you can take Mounjaro on a plane. However, to ensure it arrives safely at your destination, you need to do a few things.

Firstly, keep it with you in your carry-on in a cool bag designed for medicine. The luggage hold may be too hot or too cold, affecting the drug's efficacy.

Secondly, keep it in its original packaging. This protects it from light and potential damage from scanners and helps airport security to screen it.

Finally, you need to declare it to airport security. This will make the security process much smoother and ensure it can travel with you. Take a look at our blog for more information on travelling with weight loss pens.
